Update: NEC Says Over One Million More Voters This Election

PHNOM PENH: According to the National Election Committee, provisional figures show more than 8,213,260 people, or 84.58% of registered voters, voted in yesterday’s general election.

The number of voters this year increased by about 1,256,360 when compared to the previous election in 2018. NEC spokesman Hang Puthea confirmed that the results of voter turnout were not yet official, as there was an internet disruption while assigning constituencies due to weather conditions.

It is worth noting that Cambodia has an exceptionally young population, which means more people are eligible to vote every year as they become adults.

The 7th nationwide parliamentary election closed at 3 pm on Sunday. There were a total of 9,710,655 registered voters, including 5,161,909 women, and a total of 23,789 polling stations nationwide.
